Introduction

The skill level needed for this project is extremely minimal. It should only take one (1) to two (2) hours to complete, including driving time to search for resell or vintage clothing stores. Try your local Goodwill, Salvation Army or consignment store for clothes and accessories on the supply list.

Step 1: Supplies

Old-fashioned trousers Male 1950's brim hat
Polyester sport coat Large key ring with keys
Button down dress shirt Belt
Scuffed dress shoes Poster Board and markers
Vibrant mismatched tie Fusible Web
Dress socks Iron

Step 2: Put Together Your Costume

You'll want to make the trouser's hem blatantly too short. The easiest way to do this for a short term costume is to use fusible web.

  1. Roll up the the pants' cuff so that it's 1 to 2 inches above your ankle.
  2. Use straight pins or washable markers to mark this line.
  3. Remove the trousers and iron down the folds of the new edge.
  4. Turn the pants inside out, and apply the fusible web according to the package instructions.
  5. Use your iron to seal the hem.
  6. Now, you simply wear all the clothing items.

Step 3: Adding the Finishing Touches

Now that the major portion of the project is complete, it's time to add some final touches that will distinguish the outfit as a used car salesman costume.

  1. Connect a ton of random keys to the key chain and attach it to your belt.
  2. Cut a poster board in half.
  3. Use bright colored markers to write a commonly used car lot slogan in large letters on the poster. (E.g. "Low, Low prices!", "Rock Bottom Deals!" or "Krazy Kirk's Cheap Cars")
  4. Top it all off with a show stopping Willy Loman inspired impersonation!
